Polycarbonate and polypropylene are both types of thermoplastic polymers, but there are some key differences between the two. Polycarbonate is known for its longevity, making it an ideal choice for more demanding applications. Strong and exceptionally durable, polycarbonate can be manufactured as a transparent material.

FDA-approved polycarbonate is free of BPA and other chemicals, meaning there’s no need to worry about contamination of food products. Polycarbonate also resists chemical leaching particularly well, meaning foodstuffs won’t readily stain the material when it’s exposed to particularly high temperatures.
As well as being BPA-free and thermally stable, polycarbonate boasts many features and benefits that make it a sound choice for food storage.
Because of its increased density and higher tensile strength, polycarbonate is a more durable option than polypropylene. Because it can resist impacts well, it’s also a good option for bulk packaging and food processing applications. However, this doesn’t mean polypropylene is a poor choice for food storage, as the material holds up well to repeated use.
